Waterfalls, glaciers and black sand beaches are the main attractions that bring millions of visitors to Iceland every year. I personally visited Iceland two months in a row to see these natural wonders. When I travel, I like to find locals to show me around and see how they live, where they like to go, and what they like to eat.
When I found out about Traveling Spoon I was very interested in meeting some locals and eat an authentic Icelandic meal. Thanks to Traveling Spoon who set us up with a lunch with Albert and Bergthor on our last day in Reykjavik after touring around the country in a RV. Up to this point the only Iceland food we tried was the gas station hot dogs.
Albert is a trained chef, opened a Cafe with fresh pastries, and he has so many other talents. Bergthor is an opera singer, artist, and so much more. Their home is simply amazing, it’s like waking into a home decor magazine.
Albert prepared an incredible meal for us, a seafood soup, roasted lamb with potatoes and a rhubarb and apple cake for dessert. Bergthor entertained us with a song and endless stories keeping us laughing non stop.
I can’t recommend them enough if you’re looking for a unique experience and a great meal, much better than any restaurant in town. We had such a great time and wished we would have met them in the beginning of out trip instead of right before we had to leave for the airport.
